A selective application of hempcrete was used to create a high-performance internal feature wall within a high-end beach house. The project demonstrates how hempcrete can be introduced where it delivers the most value, in terms of both efficiency and aesthetics.

The Challenge

The design included a large feature wall rising approximately five metres through an open mezzanine space. While hempcrete was the preferred material, the builder did not want to introduce rendered finishes or additional wet trades.

Our Approach

The Cast & Block system was used to separate performance from finish. Hempcrete blocks were installed as a continuous, breathable backing rather than a finished surface. Timber battens were then fixed through the blocks and into the timber frame, creating a clear load path and allowing the exterior to be resolved entirely with timber cladding. This kept the job of cladding and weather protection to Jamies in-house carpentry team. The internal side of the wall had cast-in-place hempcrete specified for a stunning feature wall.
