This Blue Mountains extension had to push out over a steep slope, effectively "hanging" in mid-air. The owners wanted the thermal mass of hempcrete, but using traditional wet-cast mix would have been a disaster: the immense wet weight would have required expensive, heavy-duty engineering to hold it up while it dried.
The evolution
The solution was our lightweight RespiraBlock 120mm System. Because our dry blocks are a fraction of the weight of wet hempcrete or masonry, the local carpenter was able to build a solid, high-performance wall on a standard timber frame over the void. It delivered the thermal mass they craved without the engineering penalty, proving you can build heavy-duty performance in lightweight scenarios.
