A pilot project was delivered with a high-volume builder to test whether hempcrete can integrate into a conventional residential build program. Set on a steep site with strong western exposure, the project became a real-world proving ground for the Cast & Block system under mainstream construction conditions.

The Challenge
The site is defined by a steep slope and strong western exposure. Rather than treating this as a limitation, the design used the terrain to shape the layout and spatial flow of the house. The challenge was ensuring the wall system could support this architectural intent, deliver strong thermal performance, and still integrate smoothly into a conventional residential build schedule.

Our Approach
Cast & Block was used to support both the design and the climate response. Our Respira Performance blocks were specified on the western and southern elevations, creating a thermal buffer where it mattered most. The system integrated without delay to the build sequence, allowing performance to be designed in without disrupting construction momentum.

The Outcome
The project confirmed that Cast & Block can perform at scale within a mainstream residential build. The wall system delivered thermal resilience, accommodated height with ease, and moved quickly through installation and finishing. Paired with a traditional lime render externally, the house presents as a resolved, high-quality home where design intent and material performance work together.
